What are your Green Resolutions?
With a new year ahead, now is a great time to make a ‘Green’ New
Year’s Resolution! There are a lot of small switches or new habits to
reduce your environmental impact, that you can start with today.
Choosing environmentally friendly options can seem overwhelming, and
it’s easy to get dispirited in the face of climate change. However,
just because one small change won’t save the world on its own, doesn’t
mean it’s not worth doing.
You’re more likely to be successful if you pick a change that:
1) Is measurable
Working out the impact of your change will help you remember why your
new habit is worth the effort and allow you to track your progress. If
you make your showers a minute shorter, how much water (and money)
will you save in a year? How many disposable water bottles could you
save with one reusable bottle?
2) Becomes routine
The easier you can make your new goal, the better. Getting local
(ugly!) vegetables delivered to your home every week decreases the
repeated effort you need to put into the new habit.
3) Plays to your strengths
If you love cooking, look up some new vegetarian/vegan recipes. If
you’re competitive, organise a cycle-to-work challenge. Find a way for
greener choices to enrich your life rather than limit it.
